The Grand Canyon West Rim
This isn't the Grand Canyon you see in most pictures. In the high desert of northern Arizona, the Grand Canyon extends far beyond the national park boundries. The Grand Canyon West Rim is a harsh and rugged environment, yet remains impressive and awe inspiring in it's own right. Layers and layers of geology are exposed as the Colorado River continues to carve away rock and carry the mud and silt ever downstream.

The West Rim is actually located on the Haulapai Indian reservation. There are many activities at the west rim, even though it is barely developed compared to the North and especially the South Rim. From Las Vegas you can fly in an airplane to the West Rim, or take a Helicopter tour, ride in a comfortable bus, or even a luxury SUV. If you are adventurous, there is the impressive Skywalk, river raft rides (on smooth water) in the Colorado River, or you could even drive yourself to the river on Diamond Creek Road.
